1, 2, 3, Show!

I have been to three miniature shows these past two months.  Three!  At the beginning of April there was the Apeldoorn show in the Netherlands, then beginning of May there was the Kensington show in London, England and this past weekend I hitched a ride with Elly (and Elga) to the show in Rheda, Germany.

Yes, I know how lucky I am to be able to visit three shows, but now I'll say something awful (or maybe I should just softly whisper...):  it was a bit much!    It was fun to meet and speak to some friends and miniaturists though.

I promised to show you some of my purchases two weeks ago, but I have been too busy!  I will make it up to you, here's a little start:

In London I came across this pretty teapot made by Jack Cashmere.   I could not resist the pretty pattern and colours which are perfect for the Salon of my first Canal House!

The blue and white plate will move to some other part of the house as it does not match the style of the room.  I also found this beautiful bouquet of flowers at the Kensington fair.  Again the perfect colours for the Salon.

The flowers were made by Gill Rawling of Petite Fleur (no website I'm afraid).   Can you guess what they're made of?  They're all metal, brass I believe, and then painted.  Aren't they gorgeous?  And they'll last forever ;-)

In Rheda I could not resist buying another pair of shoes from Patrizia Santi (Patrisan).  She did not have too many left when I came to her table, but I thought these were fun and summery (is that a word?).   I will have to start making some clothes to go with my shoe collection!

My last purchase was a pair of scissors from Edmund Drescher (no website).  He makes the most wonderful miniature tools, all working of course!   Here's the proof:

  1. I understand the business of a bit too much. I feel that way just going to the Tom Bishop Show in Chicago. Three huge ballrooms of miniatures is brain over load for me.

The teapot is adorable I love the color and the rose on the lid.

Wow she did a beautiful job painting those flowers. They do not look stiff as you might think metal ones would. Very pretty!

The shoes and bag look very well made. ;-)

I have been looking for a great pair of scissors. They must be very sharp. I tried to look at the video but it tells me it is private. ???

Glad you had a good time. Surely there will be more to come after so many shows. :-)

    2. Yes thank you. I just came back to see if you fixed it. WOW those scissors are fantastic!

    3. Thank you! I'm glad it is working now.
Good aren't they?! Totally useless of course, but so fun to know they really do work! They were gold when I saw them but he said he could make them black using some stuff he brought with him. A 'service while you wait'. I also bought a pair of secateurs from him, which look great just laying on the wall in my little garden. I want to make a large climbing rose against the wall, so plenty to do yet.

Yes I do have a few more things to show... All in due time ;-)

  2. Hallo Josje,

  3. Hello Josje! Firstly, well done on managing to get through three shows, the crowds, noise and excitement can really take it out of you! The teapot is gorgeous and such a delicate design. Metal flowers?? Wow, I would never have guessed! The bags, shoes, and even the shoe box are beautiful and the scissors are a feat of engineering!! Thanks for showing us all these wonders. Kind regards, Brian.

    1. You're welcome Brian! The shows are wonderful to visit (and I was so lucky to be able to go, I know!) but it gets to be a bit much to take in. Similar to visiting too many museums in a day, my brain then doesn't process all of the beautiful things it sees anymore, it becomes a blur. But I did have fun and came home with lovely miniatures which I can enjoy at leisure ;-)

  4. Hi Josje,
You've got some lovely piees for your canalhouse! Love the teapot, the decoration looks very delicate and finished of with some gold it's just perfect. The bouquet looks very real an perfect addition to the room. How many pair of shoes do you have to make clothes for?!? Maybe it's easier to make a walk-in-closet wit a shoe wall? Wonderfull that the siccors really work!
Hopefully now you have some time to relax from visiting all those shows, you poor thing!

    1. Hahaha, yes I am sad, am I not? The teapot could give us some inspiration for the next class perhaps? The gold may be tricky though. I'm not even sure Cocky does gold. I saw a fabulous tea/ coffee service at the Rijksmuseum Monday, but a b*tch to make probably. By the way, guess who we ran into at the Rijksmuseum Monday morning in front of the dollshouses? Jikkelien! Such a coincidence!

I have 'only' five pairs at the moment, but plans for many more. I may yet have to make a walk in closet, I do have the perfect location for it in my new Canal House!

  7. I love everything but those flowers just blow me away I cant believe they are made of metal (I wanted to try and make some flowers it's on my to do list) and those little shoes are adorable I have a pair of shoes like that only they're pink and tan (pink is a summer color dont you think?)

    Hugs

    1. Ah yes, the flowers are fantastic! And they look so delicate but are really sturdy!
I agree, pink is a summer colour. Just look at all of the pink flowers that come out in summer!

  8. Your tenacity was certainly well rewarded with wonderful treasures (the teapot and flowers are really special - incredible that those tiny fragile looking blooms are metal!) and meeting up with other miniaturists must have been really fun.

    1. I know! It is absolutely unfair. I feel for you being such a loooong way from all of these shows!
I talked to Lidi Stroud at the Kensington Fair for a while. What a trip they make just to get there! I don't envy them.

To be honest I the trip to London was a late decision. I was thrown a bit off balance by the death of a friend a few months ago, then decided life is short so we must enjoy it while we can. So, I booked a room and a flight and just went. I had a great time.

  10. Hoi Josje,

    1. Thank you Betsy! It can be overwhelming, can't it? I usually go to the Apeldoorn show (formerly in Arnhem) and I often don't look at half of what is there because it is so much. I think my brain just partially shuts down ;-)

  13. Love your purchases, very high quality, look forward to seeing more. You are lucky to have access to all those shows and there would not doubt be a lot of different miniaturists trading at each one. I would need very deep pockets just to get there:(

    1. I know I am very lucky to be in a location which allows for fairly easy access to all of these shows. And then there is also the Paris show (where I shall not!! be going) which by train is only five hours away. If it weren't for Elly and Elga going to Rheda, I would not have gone there this time!

  25. I think that going to 3 shows would be just marvelous! I've not done it mind you, but the thought of the thrill is there! I can imagine that a European show may differ in ambiance than those in the U.S or Canada. Here on the west coast everything is very laid back and in the U.S. the shows that I have attended have been much more energized. Both have their merits and I have always come home with the goods regardless of the atmosphere but I do buy more when the electricity is in the air! Your purchases are all wonderful Josje! How could they be otherwise? You have both exceptional and exquisite taste!

    1. Yes you're right, they all have a different atmosphere. At the London show there's a real buzz and excitement. The Rheda show is very laid back, but maby that's because I was there on Sunday and it was very quiet. The Arnhem show is somewhere in between. But they are all wonderful shows! And I always buy as much as my pockets will allow me ;-) Usually I find some more wonderful things when I have spent all my money towards the end of the show. Oh well there must be something to dream of for next time...;-)

    2. PS: I looked into visiting the Chicago show, I would love to see that one! But it is just too expensive with the trip and hotel and everything. It would leave me totally out of pocket at the show. Now that would not be fun at all would it?

  32. I love your loot, all great additions to the salon! The scissors are magnificent too, i've got two of his as well. And indeed the best is they work! Great demonstration you've put up, it made me smile big time :D I simply lóve it when miniatures move, work or are manipulatable :) But the best are the wedges! They are to die for! Ubber fun for a girl in summer. I remember you've got more pair, amongst are black pumps with a red lining! Another great find from the fairs you've attended.

I read about your tiling adventure too. They turned out a treat! How clever you are!!!

    1. I am so with you on the 'moving, working or manipulating' front! It makes any miniature ten times more interesting or fun. Just to know that these scissors actually cut, not just move, but cut...makes them wonderful. I know I am probably never going to cut anything with them again, but that's beside the point.
And the wedges, well you've got the perfect words for them: uber fun! I would wear those if they were my size! Patrizia makes such fabulous shoes, I could spend a fortune on them. Am I stereotyping myself now? Hahaha!
