Vanishing act...

Contrary to what you might believe (as I have not posted anything on my blog lately), I did not abandon the miniature world.   But time just seems to fly past!

Last weekend I went to the Apeldoorn Dolls House Show.  As usual I had a lot of fun with my friends and saw (and bought!) many gorgeous things.  I spent far too much money, but someone has to keep the economy going, right?  It might as well be me then ;-)

My first stop at the show was the table of Patrizia Santi (Patrisan).    I love the shoes she makes and cannot pass the opportunity to buy a few of her pieces each time I see her at a show.   A girl can never have too many shoes, can she?
This time I went for the work boots.  I just adore the rubber profile soles which are flexible like real shoes would be.

These brown leather booties closely resemble a pair I have in real life.  Again, looove the profiled soles.  And the matching handbag...what can I say, just perfect.  The photos don't do them justice!

These red summer sandals and matching clutch handbag are so cool.  Just look at those perfectly formed platform heels!   Resistance was futile.

As I had started work on the kitchen of my new Canal House,  it gave me a 'shopping purpose'.  From my previous photos you can see I did not strictly adhere to it.  Below are the first stages of the kitchen cabinets.  They are very similar to the ones I have made before.
The tiles I won from Idske will be going on the wall above the kitchen worktop.

A few days ago I wanted to install the cabinet doors.  In my stash I found I had 6 tiny hinges left, just enough for the three doors.  As I started work, I noticed one of the hinges had gone missing.  I looked everywhere for it (yes, including my sleeves and the soles of my shoes) but it just disappeared.   When I set back to work, I noticed another hinge had gone missing.  What?  Again, I could not find it.  It just vanished.   So strange.   And it wasn't even Halloween.

Now I'll have to order new ones.  This is where I get them:  Phoenix Model Developments.  They're not cheap, but I like the size.

I did not only buy shoes at the fair, I managed to find some pieces for my kitchen.  I bought a green  porcelain dinner service...oh hang on, that is actually for my dining room which I haven't even started work on yet... There are more pieces to the dinner service than are shown in the photo and if possible I hope to add some hand painted pieces to it myself.

The blue and white vase in the photo is one I painted in Cocky Wildschut's porcelain painting class.  I painted the design freehand after a full sized 17th century Kangxi porcelain example.  It turned out really nice.   The tiles with the dog (also copied from a full sized example) was something I did in a previous class and have now incorporated into a tile wall.

This wonderful coffeepot is by Elisabeth Causeret.  I love the two separate filters.
The simplicity of the salt glaze pots fit well into my 17th century inspired kitchen so I bought several more pots and a jug.

These were my last purchases at the show.  So I have shown you the first and the last things I have bought at the autumn show.  And the ones in between?  Ah, you'll just have to be patient! ;-)

  2. Wow, you really picked up some exceptional pieces, Josje! The shoes are particularly cool and you're right: I girl (or boy) can't ever have enough shoes! I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who 'loses' things --drives me absolutely MAD! Those hinges really are the perfect size, though, so I thank you for the link. Nice to see your post and thanks also for sharing all your gorgeous, new loot.

    XOXO,

    1. Hi John, I wonder what it is that makes a lot of people love shoes so much...In this case, Patrizia just gets it right and has many styles to pick from. And they don't cost a fortune.
The hinges still have not appeared, and I have stopped looking. Sometimes I think I must have imagined I had more hinges, I must just be going crazy.

  4. I love the work boots. Those are my favorite. Personally speaking, I would buy those brown leather booties in RL
    1: 1 scale in a flash!
I am so glad to see your painted tiles up on the wall of your kitchen. How wonderful they look.
You are not the only one that Gremlins who steal things off their work space. Sometimes it gives me the creeps (though I try not to believe in silly things like that). I can know I left something right in front of me. Turn around and it's GONE! Sometimes never to be found again.

    1. The shoes are great aren't they? The brown booties are a favourite of mine in real life too.
The tiles (dog and cat) are incorporated into the wall on either side of the stove. They look pretty good even though the tiles are bigger than the other tiles. But it works I think.
Ahh the Gremlins...we have their cousins over here, the gnomes. Legend has it they will also do work for you in the night, but I have never seen any evidence of that. But they have taken plenty of things from me, so their house must start to look pretty good by now.

  5. Hi Josje, great shoes! A girl can never have enough and that goes for handbags too!

I sympathise about the hinges, very annoying when that happens...

Love the tiles over the kitchen counter, they look very at home there. The dog is quite stunning set into the wall of witjes!

  9. Hi Josje,
I asume the hinges were never to be found again? I find it so frustrating, I dropped a miniature nail polish lid/brush the other day, never to be seen again until that last second before it went up the vacuum cleaner a few days later,I had a look through the dust but couldn't find it again!

You have some lovely things from the fair, I just love the boots, the shoes and handbags for that matter too! Your kitchen is looking wonderful too, I enjoyed looking at the kitchen in your last canal house so I'm looking forward to seeing this one develop. The pottery and dinner ware a beautiful too, I wish we had fairs like yours, so many beautiful things to buy.

    Fi xx

    1. The hinges just vanished into thin air. Oh I have cut open the vacuum bag several times this year, but so far have never been able to find what went missing. Yes, very frustrating! Can you make a replacement lid for your nailpolish bottle?

Yes the fair is really nice, I always spend two days there and then I still manage to not see everything. I talk too much! It is a shame you live so far away...But if there are things you would like me to get for you at the fairs I visit over here, I'd be happy to send it to you!

    2. Thanks Josje, Thats so kind of you, I will keep that in mind. There is a small chance Mia and I could be over there June/July 20014 but I have been taking note of when you and others mention the fairs and I am not aware of any in those months. If there are any then I'd love to know.

    3. Oh that would be fun! Maybe we'll have a chance to meet up...The German fair in Rheda wil be at the end of May next year, but the fair in Paris is the 22nd of June (SIMP: http://www.simp-paris.com/ ) I have never been to the fair in Paris, but I am told that although not a big fair, it is very nice. There may be some local shows in England during those months, but I don't know where.

  12. Oh, those Dishes are Gorgeous!!! And the Shoes are Swoon worthy!!! Your kitchen is looking so fabulous... those tiles you painted are Beautiful! I love the dog as a subject... it seems so unusual! And your vase painting is very impressive... it is so difficult to keep even strokes on a curved surface! I can't wait to see more of your new treasures!

    1. Thank you Betsy! The dog tiles have a partner on the other side of the stove, a cat. In the 17th/18th century they represented the good and the bad. The dog represented the good, loyalty, watchfulness and honesty. The cat represented the bad, the incarnation of the devil (witches), carelessness and loose sexual morals.
Porcelain painting is fun and I'd love to do more of it but unfortunately I don't have a porcelain oven (and they're really expensive to buy).

    1. Hi Simon, Work is progressing slowly on the kitchen. I do know what I want it to look like though. Mostly based on a 17th century design, but with some modern touches, we do live in 2013 after all ;-) I'd like to make a big modern fridge and maybe a shiny new coffeemachine or something like that.
Based on what you have shown us before, you can build anything you want and it will be beautiful! But in the highly unlikely case you do need some help, just ask!
