A clear view...
...on a new project!
I have started to build a new canal house! I know, I know, my first canal house isn't even finished yet. I have had these plans in my head for a few years now but just couldn't figure out a few details.
Two weeks ago the solutions suddenly came to me and I started sketching. And then of course I had to see if the size would work so I built a simple cardboard model. And of course I couldn't just leave it there so I went to get some wood cut for the walls.
Well then I couldn't help myself and I had to build one of the windows... As you can see on the photos above the windows are BIG. The house will have high ceilings, particularly on the ground floor and in the 'back house' (more on that in the next post). High ceilings, big windows, big house.
The windows are sliding early 18th century style windows. I have used real glass in my windows which makes them easy to clean. Easy to break too... and I have been known to be quite clumsy...

I really thought that was a real room and window! What a fine job you are doing. And real glass??? It must be quite thin and delicate. It looks fabulous. Well done!

Terri

Josje, I love that window!!! You have done an excellent job on it and I love that it has real glass!!! Looking forward to more!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderfull window Josje! And it's a complete window allready I only made the frames at this time. And have to get the right woodparts for the windows I allready got the right glass for the windows....and after seeing your pictures I want to get on with this time consuming job.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Jeffry.
Dat ziet er veelbelovend uit Josje. Ik ben zeer benieuwd...
ReplyDeletegroet Heleni
These windows are gorgeous! I love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteEcht glas, super lijkt me dat!
Prachtig Josje!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see more, because just the first step ,your window is absolutely perfect .The idea of the photo is funny, thought you are cleaning windows in real :-)!Jeannette
ReplyDelete¡Que foto mas bonita!!!
ReplyDeleteSaludos
Flor
Thank you all for your comments!
ReplyDeleteTerri, the glass is just under 2 mm thick, in inches that should be just over 1/16th of an inch.
Jeffry, I am building only two or three windows at a time. I get bored easily ;)
ReplyDeleteLaughing about your description of how one thing builds upon another, until you have no choice but to keep moving forward ... can't wait to see another of your fabulous creations come to life ... no matter the sequence of priorities! Monica

Katherine, I love the Georgian period, such beautiful proportions, large or small! Yes this house will be large, now I am not even sure where to put it once I have the complete ground floor built...
